ICoTA and China Reunite to Drive Well Intervention Innovation

The Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) has officially re-established its China Chapter, marking a major step forward in the organization's global expansion and commitment to advancing well intervention and coiled tubing technologies.
The relaunch of the China Chapter aims to create a vital platform for professional networking, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of cutting-edge technologies in the Asia-Pacific region. With China representing one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing markets for well intervention, the renewed presence of ICoTA is set to play a key role in shaping the industry's future.
“Re-establishing the China chapter of ICoTA marks a pivotal moment, as we unite to harness the immense potential of well intervention services in one of the world's largest markets,” said Steve Moir, Global Chair of ICoTA. “Together, we will drive innovation and collaboration, ensuring a prosperous future for coiled tubing technology in China and beyond.”
Supporting China's Rapid Growth in Coiled Tubing
According to industry data, the Chinese market saw approximately 12,000 coiled tubing operations in 2024. Organizations such as CNPC Engineering Technology R&D Company and Jianghan Machinery Institute have taken the lead in advancing domestic technology, notably by forming the Coiled Tubing Technical Committee under the China Petroleum Society.
“The partnership between ICoTA and China is a natural fit,” said Frank Kong of CNPC USA. “This cooperation will not only promote technical progress within China but also enhance ICoTA’s global influence in the field.”
Major Industry Event to Take Place in May
As part of the chapter’s re-establishment, the International Symposium on Coiled Tubing Technology will be held in Wuhan, China, from May 28 to 30, 2025. The symposium, hosted by CNPC Engineering Technology R&D Company and partner organizations, will gather:
• Leading domestic and international experts and scholars
• Representatives from operators such as PetroChina, Sinopec, and CNOOC
• Major global and local service companies
The event will feature academic presentations, technical reports, and collaborative discussions on the latest innovations in coiled tubing and well intervention.
“This will be the largest academic event on coiled tubing ever held in China,” added Kong. “We warmly welcome international professionals and companies to join us. Our thanks go to ICoTA for their continued support and trust—let’s move forward together.”
